Crowd psychology, also known as mob psychology, is a branch of social psychology.

Social psychologists have developed several theories for explaining the ways in which the psychology of a crowd differs from and interacts with that of the individuals within it.

Major theorists in crowd psychology include Gustave Le Bon, Gabriel Tarde, Sigmund Freud, and Steve Reicher.

This field relates to the behaviors and thought processes of both the individual crowd members and the crowd as an entity.

Crowd behavior is heavily influenced by the loss of responsibility of the individual and the impression of universality of behavior, both of which increase with the size of the crowd.

In decision theory and general systems theory, a mindset is a set of assumptions, methods, or notations held by one or more people or groups of people that is so established that it creates a powerful incentive within these people or groups to continue to adopt or accept prior behaviors, choices, or tools.

This phenomenon is also sometimes described as mental inertia, "groupthink", or a "paradigm", and it is often difficult to counteract its effects upon analysis and decision making processes.

Motivation is a theoretical construct used to explain behaviour.

It gives the reason for people's actions, desires, and needs.

Motivation can also be defined as one's direction to behavior, or what causes a person to want to repeat a behavior and vice versa.

A motive is what prompts the person to act in a certain way, or at least develop an inclination for specific behavior.

According to Maehr and Meyer, "Motivation is a word that is part of the popular culture as few other psychological concepts are.".

Emotion, generally speaking, is any relatively brief conscious experience characterized by intense mental activity and a high degree of pleasure or displeasure.

Scientific discourse has drifted to other meanings and there is no consensus on a definition.

Emotion is often intertwined with mood, temperament, personality, disposition, and motivation.

In some theories, cognition is an important aspect of emotion.

Those acting primarily on the emotions they are feeling may seem as if they are not thinking, but mental processes are still essential, particularly in the interpretation of events.

For example, the realization of our believing that we are in a dangerous situation and the subsequent arousal of our body's nervous system (rapid heartbeat and breathing, sweating, muscle tension) is integral to the experience of our feeling afraid.
