The Bar Council of India is a statutory body established under the section 4 of advocates Act 1961 that regulates the legal practice and legal education in India.

Its members are elected from amongst the lawyers in India and as such represents the Indian bar.

It prescribes standards of professional conduct, etiquettes and exercises disciplinary jurisdiction over the bar.

It also sets standards for legal education and grants recognition to Universities whose degree in law will serve as a qualification for students to enroll themselves as advocates upon graduation.

The Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) is a State university situated at Navanagar, Hubli, Karnataka, India.

It was set up in January, 2009 by the government of Karnataka with a campus spread over 55 acres of land.

The university offers various graduate and post graduate law courses which include 5 years B.A., LL.B., B.B.A., LL.B.

and B.B.A., LL.B., (Hon’s) Double Degree integrated courses and LL.M.

in Constitutional Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Business and Trade Law Criminal Law and International Law.

Nearly 92 law colleges of Karnataka are affiliated to it.

Creating an abbreviation for a plural, especially from Latin, is often done by doubling the first letter (e.g., "pp" for "pages"), thus "LL.B." stands for Legum Baccalaureus in Latin.

It is sometimes erroneously called "Bachelor of Legal Letters" to account for the double "L".
