Cornell College is a private liberal arts college in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Originally called the Iowa Conference Seminary, the school was founded in 1853 by Reverend Samuel M.

Fellows.

Four years later, in 1857, the name was changed to Cornell College, in honor of iron tycoon William Wesley Cornell, who was a distant relative of Ezra Cornell (founder of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York).

Mount Vernon, Iowa Confidence: 88% Arrow up

Mount Vernon is a city in Linn County, Iowa, United States, adjacent to the city of Lisbon.

The city's population was 3,390 when the 2000 census figures were released, but that number was later revised to 3,808 because the Census Bureau had incorrectly reported that 418 residents of a Cornell College dormitory in Mount Vernon lived in the nearby city of Bertram.

A special census taken by the city in 2004 counted 4,171 residents.

The population was 4,506 at the 2010 census.

Mount Vernon is part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Liberal arts college Confidence: 83% Arrow up

A liberal arts college is a college with an emphasis on undergraduate study in the liberal arts and sciences.

A liberal arts college aims to impart a broad general knowledge and develop general intellectual capacities, in contrast to a professional, vocational, or technical curriculum.

Students in a liberal arts college generally major in a particular discipline while receiving exposure to a wide range of academic subjects, including sciences as well as the traditional humanities subjects taught as liberal arts.

Although it draws on European antecedents, the liberal arts college is strongly associated with American higher education, and most liberal arts colleges around the world draw explicitly on the American model.

Curriculum Confidence: 70% Arrow up

In education, a curriculum (plural: curricula or curriculums) is broadly defined as the totality of student experiences that occur in the educational process.

The term often refers specifically to a planned sequence of instruction, or to a view of the student's experiences in terms of the educator's or school's instructional goals.

In a 2003 study Reys, Reys, Lapan, Holliday and Wasman refer to curriculum as a set of learning goals articulated across grades that outline the intended mathematics content and process goals at particular points in time throughout the K–12 school program.

Curriculum may incorporate the planned interaction of pupils with instructional content, materials, resources, and processes for evaluating the attainment of educational objectives.

Curriculum is split into several categories, the explicit, the implicit (including the hidden), the excluded and the extra-curricular.

Major (academic) Confidence: 69% Arrow up

The academic discipline to which an undergraduate student formally commits.

A student who successfully completes all courses established in an academic major qualifies for an undergraduate degree.

The word "major" is also sometimes used administratively to refer to the academic discipline pursued by a graduate student or postgraduate student in a master's or doctoral program.

The term may also apply to a focused field of an academic discipline that a student chooses at the doctoral studies level.
