Flooring is the general term for a permanent covering of a floor, or for the work of installing such a floor covering.

Floor covering is a term to generically describe any finish material applied over a floor structure to provide a walking surface.

Both terms are used interchangeably but floor covering refers more to loose-laid materials.

The pile usually consists of twisted tufts which are typically heat-treated to maintain their structure.

The term "carpet" is often used interchangeably with the term "rug", although the term "carpet" can be applied to a floor covering that covers an entire house, whereas a "rug" is generally no bigger than a single room, and traditionally does not even span from one wall to another, and is typically not even attached as part of the floor.

A tile is a manufactured piece of hard-wearing material such as ceramic, stone, metal, or even glass, generally used for covering roofs, floors, walls, showers, or other objects such as tabletops.

Alternatively, tile can sometimes refer to similar units made from lightweight materials such as perlite, wood, and mineral wool, typically used for wall and ceiling applications.

In another sense, a tile is a construction tile or similar object, such as rectangular counters used in playing games (see tile-based game).

The word is derived from the French word tuile, which is, in turn, from the Latin word tegula, meaning a roof tile composed of fired clay.

User interface design (UI) or user interface engineering is the design of user interfaces for machines and software, such as computers, home appliances, mobile devices, and other electronic devices, with the focus on maximizing usability and the user experience.

The goal of user interface design is to make the user's interaction as simple and efficient as possible, in terms of accomplishing user goals (user-centered design).
