Iowa Public Television (IPTV) is a network of Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) member stations in the state of Iowa.

IPTV is owned by the Iowa Public Broadcasting Board, an agency of the state education department which holds the licenses for all the PBS member stations in the state.

IPTV's studios are located in Johnston, Iowa; a suburb of Des Moines.

Public broadcasting includes radio, television and other electronic media outlets whose primary mission is public service.

In much of the world, funding comes from the government, especially via annual fees charged on receivers.

In the United States, public broadcasters may receive some funding from both federal and state sources, but generally most financial support comes from underwriting by foundations and businesses ranging from small shops to corporations, along with audience contributions via pledge drives.

The great majority are operated as private not-for-profit corporations.

Broadcast programming is the practice of organizing and or ordering of broadcast media programs (Internet, television, radio, etc) in a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or season-long schedule.

Alternative media are media that differ from established or dominant types of media in terms of their content, production, or distribution.

Alternative media take many forms including print, audio, video, Internet and street art.

Some examples include the counter-culture zines of the 1960s, ethnic and indigenous media such as the First People's television network in Canada (later rebranded Aboriginal Peoples Television Network), and more recently online open publishing journalism sites such as Indymedia.
