The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is an office of the United States Department of Justice and a component of the Office of Justice Programs.

Juvenile delinquency, also known as "juvenile offending", is participation in illegal behavior by minors (juveniles, i.e. individuals younger than the statutory age of majority).

Most legal systems prescribe specific procedures for dealing with juveniles, such as juvenile detention centers, and courts.

A juvenile delinquent in the United States is a person who is typically below 18 (17 in New York, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Texas) years of age and commits an act that otherwise would have been charged as a crime if they were an adult.

Depending on the type and severity of the offense committed, it is possible for people under 18 to be charged and treated as adults.

The Home Office (HO) is a ministerial department of the Her Majesty's Government of the United Kingdom, responsible for immigration, security and law and order.

As such it is responsible for the police, fire and rescue services, visas and immigration and the Security Service (MI5).

It is also in charge of government policy on security-related issues such as drugs, counter-terrorism and ID cards.

It was formerly responsible for Her Majesty's Prison Service and the National Probation Service, but these have transferred to the Ministry of Justice.

Victimology is the study of victimization, including the relationships between victims and offenders, the interactions between victims and the criminal justice system—that is, the police and courts, and corrections officials—and the connections between victims and other social groups and institutions, such as the media, businesses, and social movements.

Victimology is, however, not restricted to the study of victims of crime alone but may include other forms of human rights violations.
